It is projected that 52 million infants under the age of five will show signs of overweight or
obesity. Childhood obesity is a public health issue related to metabolic syndrome, which
includes obesity, dyslipidemia, glucose intolerance, and a pro-inflammatory condition. These
modifications increase the likelihood of developing chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes
and cardiovascular conditions. This presents the case of a 10-year-old boy diagnosed with
obesity at the age of 9, who developed metabolic syndrome. After making changes to his diet
and exercising, he managed to lose weight and mitigate the syndrome. This case highlights
the importance of lifestyle-oriented interventions to prevent and manage obesity in children
and its complications.
